How does a playback path respond to a known test signal?

Add this view from Add scope > Tone Generator, then choose the input you want to inspect. Use the pane's i button for its in-app reading guide.

Read this example.

  1. The waveform shows the latest 20 ms of generated samples before the playback device applies volume or processing.
  2. Pan sets the left-to-right position (0% left, 50% center, 100% right). Invert R reverses the right channel’s polarity. The default amplitude is -12 dBFS.

Try it yourself.

  1. Select Windows default, a specific Windows audio output, or Internal only in the pane toolbar.
  2. Choose a waveform icon for sine, square, triangle, or sawtooth, or a white, pink, or brown icon for noise.
  3. Turn on the Sweep icon, enter base and target frequencies and the time per leg, then choose a logarithmic, linear, or cosine curve and a repeat mode. Cosine eases a logarithmic sweep so it starts and ends slowly.
  4. Press Play at the lower right. Adjust the signal while playing; press Enter or leave a numeric field to apply it. Stop before changing output devices.

Useful controls.

  • Once stops playback at the end of the sweep; Loop restarts at the base; Ping-pong alternates directions.
  • Select an open generator under Tone Generators in the Audio scope input menu to analyze it without a loopback device.
  • Enable Burst for a repeating on/off pattern. The default is one second on and one second off; the sweep clock continues through silence.
  • Channel ID plays bundled AI-generated announcements followed by a tone on each named side. Each tone lasts two seconds or one sweep leg; the sequence repeats until Stop.
  • Use Presets for built-in settings or save a named preset. Applying a preset keeps the current output device.
  • Workspaces remember the device and signal settings. Playback always starts manually.

Start at a modest level when testing an unfamiliar playback path.
